The Path series of drawings were created from the original Path software written in 2001. The Path software is a simulation that diagrams the motion of Valentino Braitenberg’s Vehicles. Braitenberg was a neuroanatomist who developed a set of minimal machines (“vehicles” in his words) to explore ideas about the evolution of nervous systems. Each line in the drawing reveals the history of one simulated machine’s movement as it navigates its environment. The color of the line signifies its “wiring” and therefore its behavior. Machines of the same type aggregate and flow in proximity. Each drawing is an archival pigment print 32 × 32 inches.
